A bodystocking is usually made of a similar material to tights and stockings. Although originally used to cover the body for warmth, as fabrics became more sheer they were worn particularly in the film industry when nude scenes were required but not really allowed by law, so by wearing the body stocking there was a sense of modesty. Bodystockings can be made in various colours and sheer fabrics and have long or short sleeves.
