Babydoll Sometimes written as Babydoll or Baby-doll
The origin of the Babydoll nightdress is obscure but mat have derived from the wearing of bed jackets in the early part of the 20th century origin. It is basically a short nightdress that is worn above the knee. The Babydoll became fashionable in the late 1950 partly because of a popular film that was released around that time and many from that era have now become collectable items of lingerie. Styles of Babydolls vary considerably, some being worn only a few inches above knee length are often called a short nightdress whilst other a lot shorter are sold in sets with matching pants.
Babydolls can be made of any fabric but the more glamorous styles are made of fabrics such as lace, silk, satin and chiffon and decorated with furs, ribbons and sequins whilst those made of cotton like material are a popular and inexpensive alternative.
